THE SPINA BIFIDA ASSOCIATION OF THE CAROLINAS HOSTS A SPINA BIFIDA AWARENESS DAY
Belmont, N.C. – On October 20th, the Spina Bifida Association of the Carolinas (SBANCSC) will host a Spina Bifida Awareness Day, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church in Belmont, N.C. from 10am-1pm. This event is FREE to all in attendance and will be filled with information for all families and adults living with Spina Bifida. Senator Kathy Harrington will be speaking at the event along with various medical vendors throughout the Carolinas. We will also be collecting donations to the SBANCSC as well as special needs equipment.
Spina Bifida is the most commonly occurring, permanently disabling birth defect in our country. Spina Bifida is a birth defect that occurs during the first month of pregnancy when the spine of the baby fails to close which can lead to paralysis and many other permanent problems. Eight babies are born every day in the Unites States with Spina Bifida or a similar birth defect of the brain and spine.
Over 166,000 Americans live with this birth defect, and through quality of life programs, The Spina Bifida Association of the Carolinas has a dedicated group of professionals, families and individuals with Spina Bifida working to provide resources, educate, network, advocate and to bring about public awareness of Spina Bifida.
